COMPANY
SEGA CORPORATION (hereinafter, SEGA) officially established Sega Sapporo Studio Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Sapporo, Hokkaido, President: Takaya Segawa, hereinafter Sega Sapporo Studio) to manage part of SEGA's software development and debugging operations in Sapporo, Hokkaido, on December 1, 2021.
Due to the rapid progress of digital transformation (DX) in recent years, various barriers such as the use of different devices and platforms, or the distances between countries and regions, are gradually being eliminated in the game industry, with the gaming market continuing to expand worldwide as users diversify and subsequently increase in number. As demand for gaming content also rises due to the expansion of the gaming market, there is an urgent need for software manufacturers to strengthen their development structures.
In response to this situation, SEGA has established Sega Sapporo Studio to secure a stable, high-quality development pipeline. In this new studio, locally hired employees will play a central role in designing and programming software for SEGA’s games as well as handling debugging to ensure product quality.
With a population of around 2 million, Sapporo is one of the largest cities in Japan and offers a bustling urban environment as well as an abundance of nature. In addition, Sapporo has long been the political, economic, and cultural center of Hokkaido, and is home to various educational institutions such as universities and vocational schools, making it an incredibly attractive environment to secure local talent. SEGA also anticipates that the opening of its new studio will increase employment opportunities for Hokkaido-based employees who wish to live in their home region, as well as provide options for employees who wish to relocate to Hokkaido while working as part of the SEGA Group.
I am absolutely delighted to announce the opening of Sega Sapporo Studio. I wish to welcome all those who are actively working at the forefront of the game industry to Sapporo City as we are actively involved in promoting creative industries within our city. I sincerely hope that this project will inspire students studying computer graphics or programming as well as children who aspire to become game creators, and that we can work together to develop both the gaming industry and local communities. I wish SEGA CORPORATION and the Sega Sapporo Studio all the best as they continue to grow in future.
For more than 60 years, SEGA has accumulated a wide range of know-how through its mission to create innovative content and new, captivating experiences. At Sega Sapporo Studio, we will utilize this know-how to develop games alongside a team of Hokkaido-based employees, and play a key role in the development of entertainment that people all over the world can enjoy.
