Game Title Boasting Wildly Popular IP Secures Global Release!

SEGA CORPORATION (hereinafter SEGA, HQ: Shinagawa, Tokyo, President and COO: Yukio Sugino) has decided to launch localized editions of Project SEKAI COLORFUL STAGE! feat. Hatsune Miku (hereinafter Project SEKAI) for iOS/Android, which it runs in partnership with Colorful Palette Inc., mainly aimed at the U.S., Europe, and Asia, but also worldwide.

An edition of Project SEKAI produced for countries that use traditional Chinese characters is planned to launch on 30 September 2021, as well as an English version aimed at approximately 130 other countries and regions around the world starting with Europe and the U.S. later this year. SEGA is also currently planning subsequent releases aimed at South Korea, South East Asia, and Mainland China.

Project SEKAI is a rhythm and adventure game for iOS/Android devices developed in cooperation with Colorful Palette Inc., a subsidiary of CyberAgent, Inc., and SEGA which runs the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series. In the game, the successful virtual singer Hatsune Miku, a voice synthesis software developed by Crypton Future Media, INC., stars as one of the characters. From the game’s launch in Japan in September 2020, the number of users has reached 5 million (as of July 2021).

Upon the global expansion of the title, SEGA aims to manage and run the game in approximately 130 countries/regions (North America, Europe, South America, Oceania, etc.) starting with the U.S. and Europe. SEGA is also actively engaged in the management and promotion of the game according to each region’s market environment and player preferences; alongside being localized into English, the global edition of the game will also be culturalized, such as through the addition of original content. Through such developments, SEGA aims to further elevate the Project SEKAI brand.

Regarding the game’s launch within the East-Asian region excluding Japan (Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, South East Asia), SEGA has concluded a publishing contract with Nuverse (Hong Kong) Limited, the gaming division for ByteDance Ltd., making Nuverse (Hong Kong) Limited responsible for the management and running of the game.

SEGA has sales bases and development studios all over the world, with these bases actively engaged in the overseas expansion of the IP and content produced by SEGA’s Japanese studios, as well as the development of games and related businesses according to the market environment of each region.
