Supporting game development environments through recruitment activities
I studied both law and political science at university. After graduating, I decided I wanted to work in a field that I was passionate about. The entertainment industry as a whole appealed to me, but I felt most drawn to gaming. SEGA offers a wide breadth of genres on a variety of platforms including console, smartphone, arcade, and PC. I was attracted to the fact that SEGA utilized different mediums to stir the hearts of their players. Despite lacking art skills and programming expertise, I discovered potential opportunities in HR, general office work, and other corporate responsibilities, which motivated me to join SEGA.
I've been responsible for hiring fresh graduates for programming, sound, and other technical positions. My major duties include managing our internships and job fairs, conducting interviews, and handling the follow-up with prospective employees until the day they join. Since the demands for each position and each department are different, I communicate with our on-site development team members and determine our hiring criteria based on their needs. I then plan internships and hiring events to find suitable candidates.
Becoming a pillar of a global business
Given that SEGA is a global media company, being part of its HR team also requires a global perspective.
As the gaming industry continues to globalize, SEGA, too, continues to evolve. During hiring events, we aim to show students how SEGA's management and business goals influence our development as a company, and how this ties into our expectations of potential staff.
While I may be based in Japan, I try not to lose sight of the global objective. As such, approaching our recruitment activities through constant trial-and-error can be quite challenging. However, my work fills me with a sense of pride, knowing that it serves as a cornerstone of our future global success.
I'm overjoyed when students at the hiring events tell me that the event sparked their interest in pursuing a career with SEGA.
It's also a delight to see them in their element after they've accepted an offer from us.
Aiming to expand my duties as an HR professional
In HR, our work covers many bases, such as managing staff training or providing support. I've also had many chances to work with students and external partners. Going forward, I'd like to take on a wider range of duties and take my career as an HR professional a step further.
SEGA offers a variety of job opportunities in fields outside of game development. For anyone who loves gaming or entertainment and wants to bring excitement to the world, there's definitely a place for you to make use of your skills and experience here.
I can personally vouch that my experiences from university definitely proved helpful. So, if you're interested in supporting employees in various aspects of their work, please come on down to one of our jobs fairs! I could go on for ages telling you all about the great things at SEGA.
